ERMEP utilizes over forty communities in South Eastern Ontario. Bordered
by the St. Lawrence Seaway, Ottawa River and the Trent-Severn Canal, South
Eastern Ontario is landscaped with many rivers and canals, farms and small
towns. Communities range in size, based on population, from 300
to 50,000. South Eastern Ontario communities are closely connected
to larger urban areas including Ottawa, Kingston and Belleville which
are just a stone’s throw away! With its close proximity to
Ottawa many communities offer bilingual practice opportunities.
South Eastern Ontario is home to eighteen Provincial Parks and more
than one hundred lakes, which allows for great camping, scenic hiking
and world class whitewater rafting. Miles of paved bicycle paths tempt learners
to bring their bikes or roller-blades along for the placement. Thousands
of golf courses in this area invite you to enjoy the landscape by teeing
up for a challenging or leisurely game. Small town shopping, music
festivals and snapping scenic pictures are just some other activities
learners can participate in.
Medical students choose this part of Ontario to practice in because of
its relativity to larger urban centres, the variety of medicine seen in
a small rural setting, and the picturesque landscape of farms, provincial
parks and lakes.
