Q.   What is the minimum numbers of weeks for a placement?


A.   Placement must be a minimum of four consecutive weeks.

Q.   Can the student split the weeks?  For example: 2 weeks, take a week off, and then complete the rest of placement.

A.  Only during Christmas Holidays or CARMS.

Q.   Does the student have to pay for their accommodations and if so will ERMEP reimburse the student?

A.   The place of accommodations invoices ERMEP directly.  If the student stays in a hotel setting, or a place not previously set up by ERMEP the student may have to pay up front and ERMEP will reimburse the student according to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Guidelines.

Q.   If a student goes ahead and makes their own placement arrangements will ERMEP award the preceptor their stipend, pay the place of accommodations, and pay the students' mileage?

A.   Yes, if the placement is for a minimum of four consecutive weeks and this preceptor is recognized by ERMEP and the University of Ottawa and/or Queens University.  Please note:  we do not encourage the students to organize their own placement. The student is to follow proper protocol. This is considered as unprofessional and will be reported to their university.

Q.   Can the student ask for a specific community?

A.   Yes, ERMEP will work to put students in their preferred communities. We cannot guarantee they will be placed in that community.  It all depends on the availability of the preceptor[s].

Q.   How does the reimbursement of mileage work?

A.   ERMEP pay for the students' mileage one way to the community and one way home from the community based on the academic site. ERMEP will pay 45 cents per kilometer.

Q.   Is there a list of communities on the website?

A.   Yes, there is a list of communities to choose from.

Q.   How long does it take to have a student placed?

A.  The length of time it takes to place the student varies.  It depends on the time of year, [for example holiday times], which community the student would like to be placed in, and what specialty the student chooses. [for example, FM, OBS, ER, etc]. ERMEP works to have the student placed two to three months prior to their placement starting date.
